Galway’s waterways.

Dry pastel on a brown A1 paper. The part of the Waterways series.

The process

2022

This, in my opinion rather a successful attempt to get the very minimal drawing of the waterways with Promarkers, back in 2022...

2025

This year’s colour pencil drawing (A4), that took me a while to complete but overall I am happy with it too. esoecially with the blues.

It is definitely different experience drawing with the to the colour pencils. Dirtier, but quicker, for starters. Also the colour palette is limited as I only have 12 of them. Love the yellow… but I am missing a warmer shade of blue.

I have not used these Nouvel Carré Pastels in almost 30 years. No kidding!

Galway’s waterways thread through the city, shaping its layout and character. The River Corrib, one of Europe’s shortest but fastest-flowing rivers, runs from Lough Corrib to Galway Bay and is central to local life. Canals and smaller streams connect parks, quays, and historic districts, offering scenic routes for walkers and cyclists. These waterways support biodiversity, hosting fish, birds, and aquatic plants that enrich urban nature. Historic bridges and quays along the riverbanks reflect Galway’s maritime and trading past.
